What Is Indomie?
Indomie is an instant noodle brand from Indonesia, made by Indofood since 1972 [1]. In the U.S., most people know it for Mi Goreng, a dry stir-fry noodle with sweet soy sauce and fried onions.
Nigeria is different. Indomie has been made locally in Nigeria for decades [1][2], and Nigerians grew up on the small 70 g chicken and onion chicken packs. Nigerian Indomie has a peppery chicken seasoning and is cooked with very little water, so it comes out saucy, not soupy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Nigerian Indomie different from Indomie in the U.S.?
Yes. Nigerian Indomie is made in Nigeria [2] in smaller 70 g packs, with a peppery chicken seasoning. U.S. stores mostly carry the Indonesian Mi Goreng.
What is the difference between Indomie and ramen?
Ramen is usually a soup. Nigerian Indomie is cooked with little water so it's saucy, and Mi Goreng is drained and tossed like a stir-fry.
Why are Indomie noodles so popular?
They're cheap, fast and tasty, and easy to dress up with egg and peppers. In Nigeria they're a childhood favorite.
Is Indomie healthy?
It's an instant noodle, so it's high in salt and refined flour. Make it a fuller meal by adding egg, vegetables and protein, and use only part of the seasoning sachet if you watch your salt.
