Epo pupa means "red oil" in Yoruba. This is authentic Nigerian red palm oil, the rich, deep-red cooking oil that gives West African dishes their signature color and flavor. It's a must-have for egusi soup, ogbono soup, efo riro, jollof, ofada stew and beans.

Why shoppers choose Epo Pupa palm oil

• Authentic Nigerian red palm oil, unrefined and naturally red
• Rich, earthy flavor that vegetable oil can't match
• 1 liter bottle for many family meals
• Ships in about 2 business days across the U.S., or pick up in Chicago

How to cook with red palm oil

• Soups: use as the base for egusi, ogbono and banga-style soups.
• Stews: fry peppers and onions in palm oil for efo riro and ayamase (ofada stew).

Frequently asked questions

What is epo pupa?

Epo pupa is the Yoruba name for red palm oil, the unrefined oil pressed from the fruit of the oil palm.

Why is my palm oil solid?

Red palm oil naturally firms up at cool room temperatures. Warm the bottle in hot water to liquefy it. This is normal and doesn't affect quality.

What's the difference between palm oil and palm kernel oil?

Red palm oil comes from the fruit and is red with an earthy flavor. Palm kernel oil comes from the seed and is pale in color.

How should I store palm oil?

Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark cupboard.
