Esther's Ready Stew (Mild), a Ready-Made Nigerian Stew Base

Homemade-tasting Nigerian red stew without hours at the stove. Esther's Ready Stew is a cooked tomato, pepper and onion stew base. Heat it, add your chicken, beef, fish or eggs, and dinner is ready. The mild version is family-friendly, with flavor but little heat.

How to Use It

  • Quick stew: warm the stew in a pot, add fried or cooked chicken, beef, turkey or fish, and simmer 10 minutes.
  • Jollof rice: use it as the tomato base for jollof. See our Nigerian Jollof Rice Recipe.
  • Rice and stew: spoon over white rice, ofada rice or coconut rice.
  • With sides: serve with boiled yam, fried plantain (dodo), beans or eggs for breakfast.
