Robert Pure Glycerine (many people call it Roberts glycerine) is a clear, thick liquid that draws water into skin and hair. It's a beauty-shelf staple in West African and Caribbean homes: a few drops stirred into your lotion, shea butter or hair spray make them feel more moisturizing. One 90 ml bottle lasts a long time.

How to use glycerine

  • In body lotion: add 5 to 10 drops to a palmful of lotion, or about 1 teaspoon per 8 oz bottle, and shake.
  • With shea butter: warm a little shea butter in your hands and add 2 or 3 drops of glycerine for a softer, easier spread.
  • Hair spray for natural hair: mix 1 teaspoon of glycerine with 1 cup of water (add a little aloe gel or oil if you like) in a spray bottle. Spritz on curls and twists.
  • Dry hands and feet: mix a few drops with water or lotion and rub in at night.

Tip: always dilute it. Straight glycerine feels sticky. For external use only; keep away from eyes.
